CoachES: jAFFA pRINCE & tIM fLEMINGWe are incredibly excited to have Jaffa and Tim as our Long Distance coaches!
Jaffa Prince has been based in the Bay Area since 2002. Jaffa has competed at elite levels in water polo, triathlon and road cycling. From 2002-2011, Jaffa focused on triathlon, achieving numerous podiums in top tier races in California and in World Championships at various distances. Unfortunately injury forced Jaffa to focus away from running and in 2012, dedicated himself to cycling, quickly earning the Pro 1/2 status, racing for Norcal teams. Born in Canada, raised in Belfast, N. Ireland, educated in England, Jaffa attended St. Malachy’s College, then Manchester Metropolitan University in England. Jaffa is the son of a First Nation Indian father and an Irish mother. After competing at elite levels in triathlon and road cycling, Jaffa is now focused on sharing his experiences with all GGTC members. Jaffa brings empathy, open mindedness, and creative thinking to coaching issues. Tim Fleming is the owner of Endurance, so alongside an amazing team, he plays a role in every facet of the business from managing the gym, running the performance/exercise testing lab, to coaching programs, teaching, and developing the eCycling program. For more than 20 years, Tim has enjoyed coaching athletes in every aspect of their performance and at all levels of experience. From nutrition to technique, his commitment to education, sharing experiences through sport, and teaching extends well beyond the cycling world. Tim’s relevant background started with competitive swimming and running before the age of 8 and doing his first bike race at age 12, leading to a triathlon debut at age 15. This early love of endurance sports led Tim to compete professionally in the sport of triathlon, and ultimately studies in sport science, earning a master’s degree in exercise science & kinesiology. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSAre there fitness or equipment requirements for the Long Distance program? The recommended fitness requirements for the LDP:
Who is this for?Self-motivated individuals who want to take on the challenge of a half or full ironman distance triathlon training and train in a group are welcome! When will I be working out?The group meets in-person 3 times per week leading up to race day for a combination of swimming, biking, and running workouts. Where will I be training? The majority of workouts will take place in San Francisco with bike rides taking place all around the Bay Area including Mount Tam peak, Mt. Diablo, Tunitas Creek / King's Canyon / Old La Honda. What happens if I can’t make it to all the workouts? It would be great if we had enough time in the day to do everything we want, but sometimes we have to prioritize. Rarely does any triathlete make 100% of the workouts, and that's okay. You should plan to dedicate at least 8 - 12 hours a week as part of this training program. Do I have to race? No, competing in the designated triathlon is optional. You can certainly train with the group and not race or race in another triathlon. It’s totally up to you! What about equipment? You will need a road bicycle and helmet, running shoes, swimsuit, goggles, and a wetsuit. We will cover the basics of required and recommended triathlon equipment in the beginning of the training program. What is the refund or cancellation policy? There are no refunds given for GGTC training programs. If you find you have any issues attending the trainings, contact us through the email below. How do I register if I’m not a member yet? You’ll first need to purchase GGTC Annual Membership here. Then you can register for the Long Distance Program! Questions?
