Short Distance Training Program by Dahlz Performance CoachingWelcome to GGTC’s 23rd year of its Short Distance training Program! Are you a prospective triathlete looking to compete in your first triathlon? Or perhaps you’re a seasoned athlete who wants the structure of a 10-week coached training plan to target a Sprint or Olympic distance race. Either way, SDP is for you! Our program caters to athletes of all abilities who love the camaraderie of training with a fun, motivated group of people often targeting the same event. Expert Coaching Under the tutelage of professional triathlete and long-time certified coach John “JD” Dahlz, our Short Distance Training Program provides expert guidance to help you reach your goals. Assisted by a team of veteran captains, we strive to make sure every athlete gets the support they need to succeed, regardless of their starting point. Community and Camaraderie SDP is more than just a training program—it’s a community. You’ll bond with other members, build lasting friendships, and enjoy the support of a team that’s with you every step of the way. The shared experience of training and competing together creates a unique and motivating atmosphere that makes every session enjoyable. The Race We will target the Santa Cruz Olympic Distance Triathlon currently scheduled for Sunday September 22nd; however, there is no requirement to do the race and this program is also great for those competing in summer races. Sprint Distance Racers will swim .5 mile, bike 12.4 miles and run 3.1 miles. Olympic Distance Racers will swim .92 mile, bike 25 miles, and run 6.2 miles. When you cross the finish line you will experience a feeling that is beyond compare! Benefits for New Members For new club members, SDP is an excellent way to integrate into the wider GGTC community. You’ll meet fellow triathletes, get familiar with the club’s culture, and find training partners who will help you stay motivated and committed to your goals once the training program is done. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWho is this for?Self-motivated individuals that want to take on the challenge of triathlon training! Ideally you can swim 200 yards, ride a bike and run a few miles. This program is also great for someone that may have completed a triathlon previously and is looking to go to the next level. When will I be working out?The group meets 3 times per week leading up to race day for a combination of swimming, biking and running workouts. The workouts are on Wednesday evenings at Kezar track, and at a variety of locations on Saturday and Sunday morning. Where will I be training?Workouts will be held in Marin and San Francisco. What happens if I can’t make it to all the workouts? It would be great if we had enough time in the day to do everything we want and sometimes life gets in the way. With the help of your coaches, you can train as little as 8 hours a week and feel confident you can complete the race. You'll be able to also follow along on your own via Training Peaks if you can't make it in person. Do I have to race? No, competing in the designated Triathlon is optional. You can certainly train with the group and not race or race in another triathlon. It’s totally up to you! Can you tell me more about the Triathlon? Please visit their site for more details regarding the race. Securing an entry spot and registration fees are not included with the program. You must register independently for the Triathlon. Make sure to get your registration discount on the member discounts page. What about equipment? You will need a bicycle, helmet, running shoes, swimsuit, goggles and a wetsuit. If you don't have these things yet, don't worry! Coach JD will cover the basics of triathlon equipment in the beginning of the training program at our partner Sports Basement. How do I register if I’m not a member yet? You’ll first purchase GGTC Annual Membership prior here. Then you can register for SDP!
