Intro:

Daylight Savings time is upon us! Civil twilight ends at 7:45pm, which in cycling terms means we don’t have to wake up at dawn to complete an 85 mile ride at recreational speeds. We can stop for an hour for coffee, and an hour for Lunch, and STILL make it into town before dark!

Short Description: SF to Santa Cruz and Back

Depart: 9am Presidio Sports Basement

Ride Type: Intermediate. If you can do P-Loop you can do this ride as long as you pace it.

Ride link: https://www.strava.com/activities/2966622219

Distance: 83

Climb: 4,200

Pace: 15-25 on flats 5-15 on climbs 10-20 .avg

Long Description:

Team, the day’s grow longer, the sunsets later. Let’s mark the impending change in the seasons with a ride to Santa Cruz. 85 mi ride not enough? Bonus Add on -> 800 feet up to UCSC, for a nominal fee you can drop into the Slug Pool a 50m x 25y overlooking the entire Monterey Bay.

While it would be great to make this one giant group ride, we realize that we are beginning to encroach on the race season or the training season leading thereto. We understand if you would like to blast off on an individual effort to break 3 hours. The main pack won’t dip much below 15 on flats, but will wait and regroup stragglers at the base of hills or at such other negotiated and predetermined spot.

Can’t do 85mi but still want to go? Contact me, and we can set up a half ride from Pescadero. Details for a half ride will be written as they become available.

Ride highlights:

In a word Beer: California is the world’s epicenter of craft beer and Santa Cruz sits at the pinnacle.

Food: All of it

Other details:

Lodging: I’ve looked, as of 2/27/20 you can book motels for 2 starting at $75 and winding up to about $150, with $100 getting you a happy medium between cost, and scumminess.

I will set up a FB Group to assist with helping people find roommates to the extent you would like to split lodging costs.

What to Bring: Back Pack, containing a change of clothes you wouldn’t be embarrassed to go out in. That includes shoes or flip flops. Cash, cards, bike tool, spare tube, something to air it up with, hydration, and nutrition.
