Let's go for a ride up to awesome Bay Area views!

Join me, Hiroshi, for a recreational climb to one of the three main peaks in the bay. We will depart from  THE ATHENIAN SCHOOL gps pin at 8:30am. (So get there for 8:15). Free parking at the school next to Mt Diablo Scenic Blvd.

___________

INTERMEDIATE/MODERATE RIDE: Slow 5 – 8 mph. Regroups along the way at the tops and major junctions. Slow/Easy pace and will vary throughout the ride generally. Trying to keep it a Z2 ride. No Drops.

Rating this as a 5– Some rolling hills but generally uphill with varying grade 5-10%. (80mins +) of climbing.

Strava Map here

22 mi

3441 ft

Total Riding time around 2-2.5 hours.

___________

Bring lots of water and sunscreen since some of the ride can be quite exposed to the sun. We'll head off from the school and slowly climb up. We'll take rest at the Junction for water and then head to the summit. In a crystal clear day, it is reported that one can see the Sentinel Dome in Yosemite (130 miles due east), Mt. Lassen (170 miles north) and the Farallon Islands (60 miles due west) west of the Golden Gate Bridge.  For most of the climb, our view is of grasslands with many interspersed valley, blue, and black oak tree varieties.  The Climb averages 5.8% and is a very smooth and comfortable ascent (in the 4-7% range, for the most part) save for the last two-tenths mile which averages 15%. After enjoying the views, we'll enjoy one of the best descends in the bay for about 30 min before finally arriving at the parking lot. If you're free, we'll grab some brunch in Walnut Creek after!

Required items: Positive Attitude, Hydration, Nutrition, Cash, Credit Cards, ID, material to change a flat tire, Helmet
