Welcome to: ROAD TO THE LIGHTHOUSE 2024

Point Reyes National Seashore Backpacking | REI AdventuresAs GGTC kicks off another year filled with races & long rides & new challenges, the A-Team is excited to announce a new series of advanced rides! Culminating at the end of February with a century ride to the historic Pt. Reyes Lighthouse, this informal series is meant to steadily build our base fitness ahead of the 2024 training season. Hope to see you out there!

WEEK 3: Nicasio

Rancho Nicasio - Events, Things to Do in Nicasio - American Restaurant, Bars, Live Music Venue - Phone Number - Hours - Photos - 1 Old Rancheria Road - SF Station

Join Ambassador Bryan for a semi-drop ride to Nicasio as a base-building bike kick off.

For those new to GGTC or unfamiliar with the Long-Distance Program, this is part of a classic route we ride for long distance prep that heads out to Bovine Bakery in Pt. Reyes Station, notable for their delicious Morning Buns and assorted baked goods. We’ll get there eventually, but for now we’ll head to Nicasio to make it a bit shorter.

We'll re-group often up until Fairfax (Mike's Bikes, Camino Alto, Coffee Roastery (Fairfax), Nicasio Market) but please download the route ahead of time.

Please note that this is a SEMI-DROP RIDE, intended to be a MODERATE PACE. There are a few notable climbs, (Camino Alto, White’s Hill) but in Bay Area Terms this is considered “rolling."

Depending on how long we stop, I estimate we will return to SF at about 230ish.

The route: https://www.strava.com/routes/3171902054439767132

WHEN: Saturday, January 20, 2023 — 8:00am; rolling by 8:05

WHERE: Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center; text / slack me if you'd like to join from Mike's Bikes

WHAT TO BRING: Helmets, mask and adequate hydration/nutrition, $ for food and drinks.

Questions? Text (408-537-3714) / slack Bryan.

Important to remember:

  • Nutrition: These rides will not be at race intensity, but you should still be prepared to refuel your body regularly.
  • Clothing: Check the weather report! Layers, shoe covers, and a good rain shell are highly recommended during the winter months (for product recommendations that fit any budget, visit #gear on Slack).
  • Safety: Winter storms tend to scatter debris across the road, causing hazards to yourself and other riders. Ride carefully, communicate with your group, and ensure that your brakes are in good working order.
  • Bike Maintenance: After every ride, take a few minutes to ensure that your bike is clean & dry. Looking for more maintenance tips? Head over to the #bike channel on Slack and ask!
