Welcome to: ROAD TO THE LIGHTHOUSE 2024

Point Reyes National Seashore Backpacking | REI AdventuresAs GGTC kicks off another year filled with races & long rides & new challenges, the A-Team is excited to announce a new series of advanced rides! Culminating at the end of February with a century ride to the historic Pt. Reyes Lighthouse, this informal series is meant to steadily build our base fitness ahead of the 2024 training season. Hope to see you out there!

WEEK 8: The Big Kahuna!

This is it, GGTC! The big preseason ride we've all been waiting for. With this century under your belt, you'll head into your spring training blocks brimming with confidence and ready to rock in 2024. Meeting at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, we'll stop by Mike's Bikes before cruising up Highway 1 all the way to Pt. Reyes Station. From there, it's a punchy 20 miles to the lighthouse, where we'll turn around and head back the way we came. After passing through Pt. Reyes Station for the second time, we'll hang a left at Olema and roll along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard through Samuel P. Taylor State Park. One last pit stop in Fairfax, and then it's nothing but easy miles all the way home!

While the pace will be moderate, this is a semi-drop ride (waiting only a few minutes for occasional regroups). Meeting/refueling points will be at Mike's Bikes, Stinson Beach, Pt. Reyes Station, the Lighthouse, Pt. Reyes Station (again), Fairfax, and finally Mike's Bikes.

Want to start from the Marin side? We can meet at Mike's Bikes! Just message Ambassador Nick on Slack (@nick) or text him at 484-401-4294 to let us know you'll be joining from there. Starting/ending at MB will shave off 12-15 miles and a few hundred feet.

Important to remember:

  • Nutrition: These rides will not be at race intensity, but you should still be prepared to refuel your body regularly.
  • Clothing: Check the weather report! Layers, shoe covers, and a good rain shell are highly recommended during the winter months (for product recommendations that fit any budget, visit #gear on Slack).
  • Safety: Winter storms tend to scatter debris across the road, causing hazards to yourself and other riders. Ride carefully, communicate with your group, and ensure that your brakes are in good working order.
  • Bike Maintenance: After every ride, take a few minutes to ensure that your bike is clean & dry. Looking for more maintenance tips? Head over to the #bike channel on Slack and ask!
