Welcome to: ROAD TO THE LIGHTHOUSE 2024

Point Reyes National Seashore Backpacking | REI AdventuresAs GGTC kicks off another year filled with races & long rides & new challenges, the A-Team is excited to announce a new series of advanced rides! Culminating at the end of February with a century ride to the historic Pt. Reyes Lighthouse, this informal series is meant to steadily build our base fitness ahead of the 2024 training season. Hope to see you out there!

WEEK 2: Swim and Paradise [Rescheduled]!

We can't change the weather, but we can adapt! Join Ambassador Nick M as we combine Sunday workouts for a full suite of activity, with options for every level of experience! Members, Prospective Members, and Friends are welcome.

[Beginner-Friendly] Ride to Tam High Pool: Meet at the GG Bridge Welcome Center at 8:15 (roll by 8:20) and join on an 8-mile, no-drop ride to Tam High Pool for the Sunday Master's Set, which begins at 9am. We'll regroup at Mike's Bikes along the way so that we roll to the pool together. Don't forget swim-wear and a towel! Feel free to roll back to the city afterwards, or join the...

[Intermediate] Post-Swim Paradise Loop: After an invigorating swim session, depart at ~10:20 for a semi-drop, 19-mile Paradise Loop with a re-group at Cafe Acri in Tiburon. We'll ride back to Tam High and roll back towards SF, making sure we are city-side before the King Tide (which peaks at 1:13pm) strands us in Marin. Along the way back to SF, there's the option for the...

[Advanced] Bonus Full Hawk Climb: Feeling spicy? Need more elevation in your life? Join for a Full Hawk sprint, which starts at the sea-level pier underneath the Bridge and goes to the top of Hawk. We'll regroup and drop massive kudos at the top before deciding how to get back (Front-side or Back-side).

Depending on how long we stop for each of these, I estimate we will return to SF at about 1ish.

WHEN: Sunday, January 14.

  • SF to Tam High: 8:15am; rolling by 8:20
  • Paradise Loop: 10:15am; rolling by 10:20

WHERE: Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center and/or Tam High Pool

WHAT TO BRING: Helmets, swim gear, and adequate hydration/nutrition, $ for food and drinks. I plan to leave my wet swim gear at Tam High while doing the Paradise Loop portion of the ride.

Questions? Text (920-655-1661) or slack Nick Molzahn.

Important to remember:

  • Nutrition: These rides will not be at race intensity, but you should still be prepared to refuel your body regularly.
  • Clothing: Check the weather report! Layers, shoe covers, and a good rain shell are highly recommended during the winter months (for product recommendations that fit any budget, visit #gear on Slack).
  • Safety: Winter storms tend to scatter debris across the road, causing hazards to yourself and other riders. Ride carefully, communicate with your group, and ensure that your brakes are in good working order.
  • Bike Maintenance: After every ride, take a few minutes to ensure that your bike is clean & dry. Looking for more maintenance tips? Head over to the #bike channel on Slack and ask!
