What to expect:
Ahh, Mt. Vision. I had never heard of this until our Community Director said he wanted to do a "Vision Quest" this weekend. I didn't know what that meant, so whipped together a different hilly route until Nick pointed out that he meant Mt. Vision. Which is apparently the least-cycled climb in Pt. Reyes, according to Strava. After a bit of Googling revealed that there's a 1950's-era, high-powered 113.7 MHz radio transmitter at the top used to guide aircraft approaching the California coastline (because who doesn't love a bit of cool infrastructure), I was sold.
We’ll convene at the GGB Welcome Center at 7:45 AM (rolling 7:50), cruise by Mike’s Bikes if anyone wants to join from there, roll easy out to Fairfax, climb White's Hill & Nicasio, refuel at Bovine Bakery, and finally reach the Pt. Reyes peninsula. From there, the climb up Mt. Vision is about 4 miles at 5.2%, with some ramps over 10%. It's a narrow road with switchbacks, so be careful on the climb and even more careful on the descent!
On the way back, we'll climb BoFax and the Seven Sisters, and from there descend back to the city.
This is a drop ride, so be prepared for the group's average speed(s), be able to fix a flat, and navigate on your own, if needed.
Please download the route and come prepared according to the essentials checklist on our website!
