GGTC's Response to covid-19
The situation is evolving, so we'll continue to update this page with new information as it becomes available.
Last Update: March 29, 12pm PST
Despite our best efforts to keep things running smoothly, it is impossible to ignore the fact that it is time to address COVID-19 head on as much of the community already has. The GGTC Board of Directors called an emergency meeting last night (March 12) to discuss the current state of affairs surrounding the virus. It has been unanimously decided that we will be following the recommendations of the CDC, WHO and the SFDPH in regards to the club’s events going forward. We feel that public safety is of the utmost importance. With that said, it is now time for us to do our part.
As of today, all GGTC sponsored events will be cancelled until April 4, whereby we shall reassess the COVID-19 pandemic and determine if it is safe and feasible to reinitiate our program or continue the temporary hiatus for a few more weeks.
In regards to our training programs, all in-person group workouts will also be suspended for HIT, OLY, and Women for Tri. Each coach has been consulted and informed of our decision. For these participants, on-your-own workouts will be uploaded to your Training Peaks for the next two weeks. As always, please feel free to reach out to your coach with any questions you may have regarding the workouts.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Although this was a difficult decision to come to, the Board wants to reassure you that the health and well-being of our membership and community is our primary concern.
Please feel free to reach out to any of the Board or Ambassador team members for questions, comments or concerns.

Frequently asked questions
All SF Parks and Rec pools have closed including Mission pool through April 7. Tam High pool is also closed.
Kezar Stadium remains open for individual (solo) use from 6:30am to 10pm. Social distancing while running is essential. The "shelter in place" order specifies that individual exercise (when done with social distancing of at least six feet) is still allowed.
Can I still work out?
YES! But PLEASE be sensible and take social distancing seriously. We all want this to be over as quickly as possible and the more we slow the spread, the sooner we can get back to normal. This means you might need to get creative planning your workouts.
Everyone loves a run along Crissy Field/Embarcadero, but if its seriously busy, why not head up to the Presido? Or along Ocean Avenue?
Kezar might still be open but why not mix it up and try the area in front of the de Young? Or around the top of the Polo Fields?
Lyon Street Steps are great! But this city has more hills than people! So mix it up - it won't take you long to find a nice steep hill ("let the hill do the work!").
When you're planning a bike ride, please be careful! The last thing the heath system needs to to deal with trauma cases. Ride extra safe and maybe keep it local. And Zwift is offering a 30 day free trial - including the option to try out the the hardware!
AP is still an option for swimming. Again if you're new to open water please be careful and don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need some advice.
Consider a virtual workout! Video conference your best work out buddies, queue up a YouTube yoga/strength/hiit session and take the opportunity to try something new!
We have not been informed of anyone in GGTC who has tested positive for coronavirus. All of our protective measures are being done in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus within our community.
Unfortunately, the Board has decided to postpone Training Weekend as we are unsure how long the protective measures will be in place. For those that have already registered, we will be re-evaluating dates and location, so please be patient until we can come up with a solution.
The board is aware that IRONMAN has just announced postponement of the IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Rosa and IRONMAN 70.3 Victoria races - the two target races for our Half IRONMAN Training Program. In what has been a continually evolving and challenging time globally, we recognize that the postponement may come as a disappointment for our athletes training for those races.
However, please remember you do have a full training plan (via TrainingPeaks) to help you through your training in the upcoming weeks. The board is considering its options and will attempt to make the best possible arrangements for our athletes. Please bear with us.
Many race organizers are currently being forced to reconsider their plans. IRONMAN is publishing regular updates on their plans on a special announcement page, https://www.ironman.com/updates.
